THE EXHIBITION CATALOGUE

At the opening of the exhibition, which was attended by over 100 invited guests and Italian and Slovenian media, the participants were welcomed by Ingrid Sergaš , general consul at the Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia in Trieste: “Slovenia, the land of forests, as a strategic raw material with a lot of untapped potential, and the wood processing industry has placed it among prospective industries with a sufficient amount of domestic raw material. Promotional exhibition is a proof that today in the field of design, Slovenia is also an important innovative part of European and global creative flows. ”

In the following, Jože Prikeržnik , Director General of the Directorate of Wood Industry at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology of Republic of Slovenia, emphasized that Slovenian design and architecture are the creative forces of the future of the Slovenian wood industry and play a major role in achieving the potential for change. »Knowledge, creativity and innovation of woodworkers, architects and wood companies lead the Slovenian wood industry to a whole new way of manufacturing wooden products and sustainable construction. Slovenia, with its own high-quality timber raw material, joins the global trend of sustainable design of ambient and timber construction, even for the most demanding facilities. The exhibition gives us the opportunity to show to the foreign public that, while preserving the rich traditional woodworking skills, we are also rapidly developing the latest technologies and innovative processing approaches. ”

“Wood industry has an extremely long tradition in Slovenia, which is why the country has made the decision to interconnect top-level design, wood and technological development. Slovenia Design Showroom Milano is thus a platform through which we want to strengthen the recognition of Slovenian industrial design and architecture in wood and innovative wood products on international markets, thus opening doors for Slovenian businesses to new businesses, “stressed Gorazd Mihelič , director of SPIRIT Slovenia. “At the same time, we want to establish a dialogue with various Italian partners, from the types of designers, architects, commercial agents as well as investors to public and private infrastructure and to create long-term successful partnerships.”

The exhibition highlights Slovene design and architecture, reflecting a high level of awareness of Slovenian natural features and the ability to sustainably exploit material, said the curator of the exhibition, dr. Barbara Predan . She emphasized that the exhibition is based on two time sections. “The archaeological, ethnological and pioneering peaks of professional Slovene wood design from the second half of the 20th century was exposed in the back. In the direction of looking forward, the well-designed products of modern design and architecture were looking for – following the set strategic directions of the Republic of Slovenia. The design is presented, which is not only thoughtfully planned in its essence, but in many areas, it shows the path of development. ”

The exhibition was designed in eight thematic categories, namely construction, construction, living, light, preparation, operation, game and alternatives. It can be seen, among other things, several global innovations that represent the Italian public for the first time: the most complex Slovenian infrastructure project with the technical innovation of deep wood impregnation for weather protection (Nordic Center Planica), the most cost-effective PHI certified passive window in the world (Natura Optimo XLT), the world’s first computer from wood composite (EggBox) and the first industrial-made paper from the Japanese Knotweed.
