The delegation was jointly organized by the Public Agency SPIRIT Slovenia, the Wood Industry Directorate at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, Wood Industry Cluster Slovenia and International Relations Department at CCIS.

In addition to visiting the world exhibition EXPO Dubai, an interesting business part of the delegation was also organized.

On Monday, January 17, 2022, a business forum was held at the Slovenian pavilion, entitled Sustainable Living and Wood – “Fit for 55” (program can be found HERE ) on wood as a sustainable material of the future, with the participation of high representatives of the Republic of Slovenia. The Fit for 55 program in the context of forest systems and the wood industry was presented at the event, and the opportunities that Slovenia and Europe have in the field of wood were highlighted.

In addition to the business forum, an exhibition of innovative wooden products was set up on the pavilion by students of the Maribor College of Woodworking.

After the official part, there was a lively networking between Slovenian and foreign companies, which continued the next day at various locations at the EXPO and Dubai. The delegation brochure can be found HERE .

The delegation also took part in events Circular Europe Days in Dubai , organized by the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform and whose common thread was the circular economy, green recovery and innovative solutions. Events in this context were organized in the pavilions of the participating countries; Slovenia, the Netherlands, Finland, Poland and Ireland.

The members of the delegation were very pleased with the visit to Dubai, as they gained a lot of new knowledge, exchanged experiences and forged new business connections, some of which could develop into serious business cooperation.

Barbara Šubic, director of carpentry, M Sora d. d. : » The delegation to Dubai met my expectations, both in terms of organization and content. I had some business conversations with foreign companies, architects. These are long-term conversations. It will take quite a while to get to the projects, if at all. I have already participated in the delegations organized by SPIRIT Slovenia with partners and they have always been well organized. The delegation attaches great value to the diversity of the companies from which the participants come and to the informal talks between us. Through these conversations, you often learn a lot about the problems, the business of other companies, how they solve their problems with staff, materials,… These exchanges of experience are invaluable and the greatest added value of delegations.

Bernard Likar, Wood Industry Cluster Slovenia: » The World Exhibition offers a great opportunity every five years, not only to get acquainted with the trends in the World and the surpluses offered by the participating countries, but also to establish new business contacts also outside established markets. The delegation of wood and furniture companies at EXPO Dubai represents the full range of products offered by this industry, as well as a number of innovative solutions and design surpluses and thus credibly brought to the world a positive image of the Slovenian wood and furniture industry. We are also very grateful for all the support of the Wood Industry Directorate at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology and SPIRIT Slovenia, public agency, for enabling the implementation of this, probably the largest Slovenian business delegation at EXPO Dubai. We will continue to support companies from our sector in foreign markets, as exports are of key importance for our industry “.

The activity is co-financed by the Wood Industry Directorate at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology.
