Despite the fact that Europe is currently faced with a surplus of wood, experts in the near future (2020 -2050) due to various factors of increase of use of wood, they expect the lack of this precious commodity. Therefore, used wood is becoming an increasingly important source of raw materials for the production of new products, materials and chemicals. Wood may have several life-cycles. In the timber can be achieved by two or three stages of use: firstly it is used as sawn timber, the second time in the recycle process for the production of plates and paper, and at the end fot production of energy or as a source of bio-chemicals. At the consultation event “Used wood – Opportunities and Challenges”, which was held on 10.11.2016 in Ljubljana, Slovenia within the exhibition activities fair Ambient Ljubljana, participants were acquainted with the latest research in the field of used wood and challenges in its application.

Two projects of WooWisdom ERA-net+ programme were presented; CaReWood and ReWoBioRef and two examples of good practice of handling a used timber in companies M Sora d.d. and CEP d.o.o.

The main organizer was the Association of Engineers and Technicians of wood Ljubljana in cooperation with UNI LJ, UP, M Sora d.d. and Wood Industry Cluster.
