SUMMARY:Business meetings of wood and furniture companies from Slovenia and Ukraine
DESCRIPTION:On May 20\, 2026\, business meetings of delegations of wood and furniture companies from Slovenia and Ukraine were held via the online b2b platform. The event was organized by the SPIRIT Slovenia Public Agency with the support of the Directorate for Wood at the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The implementation was coordinated by the Lesarski grozd in cooperation with the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This is the third such meeting in the last two years with the aim of further deepening and strengthening business contacts. \n\nThe aim of this business meeting of delegations from Slovenia and Ukraine was to learn about the latest market trends and to find new business opportunities and contacts. 26 Slovenian and 10 Ukrainian wood and furniture companies expressed interest in the meetings. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUkraine represents a very interesting market\, especially from the point of view of the supply of wood and wood materials\, and on the other hand\, an increase in demand for wood and furniture products can be expected in the post-war reconstruction. The current volume of trade in wood and furniture products between the two countries is in the range of EUR 15.5 million\, which means that there is potential for strengthening trade. \n\n\n\nThe event is organized by SPIRIT Slovenia\, a public agency with financial support from the Ministry of Economy\, Tourism and Sport.

SUMMARY:Opening of the exhibition LIVING WITH WOOD and signing of the manifesto for the International LIVING WITH WOOD DAY
DESCRIPTION:On May 12\, 2026\, the exhibition LIVING WITH WOOD: From forest to home. Wood as a mirror of development and quality of life\, prepared by SLOWOODLIFE\, was opened at the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. \n\nThe exhibition opening program included speeches by representatives of key institutions and partners\, a presentation of the initiative and manifesto for the International Day of Living with Wood\, a presentation of boutique wood destinations from the Wood We Go® campaign\, and wooden products from selected woodworking schools. \n\nThe event also symbolically connected two important milestones: the 175th anniversary of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia and 15 years since the publication of the first Slovenian magazine entirely dedicated to living with wood – Varčna hiša\, which is now published under the name LIVING WITH WOOD. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn doing so\, it opened up space for reflection on wood as an important developmental foundation for modern living\, architecture\, the economy\, and Slovenian space\, and connected the profession\, academic institutions\, politics\, and the economy on a common platform. \n\nThe signing of the manifesto\, which took place on this occasion\, represents an important founding step for the initiative\, as it provides it with professional\, institutional\, educational and economic support and paves the way for the establishment of November 7 as the International Day of Living with Wood. \n\nThe manifesto was also joined by the Association of the Wood and Furniture Industry\, for which Bernard Likar signed it by proxy. \n\nYou can find more about the event and the manifesto HERE.

SUMMARY:The timber cluster participated in the international event URBAN FUTURE 2026
DESCRIPTION:URBAN FUTURE is the largest European event dedicated to the development of sustainable and resilient cities\, bringing together city leaders\, decision-makers\, innovators\, public institutions and businesses that co-create the future development directions of European cities. According to the organizers\, URBAN FUTURE hosted approximately 3\,000 international participants\, more than 100 city delegations\, top speakers and numerous side events and business networking formats between 24 and 27 March 2026 at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre in Ljubljana\, Slovenia. \n\nSPIRIT Slovenia\, which was involved in the co-organization of the event\, invited us to co-create the conference program with a thematic talk / panel\, which took place on March 26\, 2026\, on the topic “Slovenian Wood Innovation Showcase – From Forest to Future Cities”. \n\nThe focus of this panel was sustainable and low-carbon construction (especially wooden construction\, wooden structures\, prefabricated systems and bio-based construction)\, innovative building technologies\, materials and renovation\, natural and green solutions for urban areas\,.. \n\nThe panel was attended by; Tina Špegelj from MARLES Hiša\, Nataša Teraž Krois from LUMAR IG\, Jure Jančar from CBD and internationally renowned architect Jure Kotnik. The panel was moderated by Bernard Likar\, Lesarski grozd. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe panel concluded that solutions for cities in 2030 and 2050 are not hidden in a distant laboratory but are growing here\, in our forests\, and are being shaped with incredible precision by the experts who were panelists. \n\nWood is no longer just “traditional” – it is a high-tech\, digitalized material that allows us to build higher\, faster\, and smarter. \n\nSustainability is not a compromise on luxury – whether it’s a passive family home or the interior of a five-star hotel\, bio-based materials provide a level of well-being that concrete simply cannot replicate. \n\nSlovenia is a “green laboratory” for Europe – from the structural calculations of CBD and the production of CLT Stilles to the cutting-edge assembly systems of Marles and Lumar and the visionary plans of Jure Kotnik. \n\nThe message to the city representatives was: When you return to your municipalities\, don’t just think about how to reduce carbon. Think about how to store carbon in your buildings. Slovenian companies can be your partner in this.

SUMMARY:Cross-border exchange of experience in the field of promoting the use of wood
DESCRIPTION:On March 25\, 2026\, the Wood Cluster\, together with SPIRIT Slovenia\, visited proHolz Steiermark in Graz\, Austria. \n\nThe working visit brought an exchange of experiences and ideas on the promotion of wood in Slovenia and Styria. The visit was attended by representatives of SPIRIT Slovenia\, a public agency that leads promotional activities for increased wood use in Slovenia at the national level\, the Timber Cluster\, which actively supports such activities\, and proHolz Steiermark\, which promotes wood in Styria\, Austria. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTogether\, we explored how to communicate topics related to wood and forests more effectively with the general public – from raising awareness about sustainable forest management to highlighting the benefits of building with wood. The key focus was on making complex content accessible\, attractive and relevant for different target groups. We also shared insights into the educational initiative “Holz macht Schule”\, which\, with specially developed teaching materials and tools\, helps to introduce forest and wood topics into classrooms in a clear\, interactive and effective way. \n\nStrong partnerships like this are essential to forge a common voice for wood in Europe – and to inspire the next generation.

SUMMARY:Slovenian Wood Industry Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Slovenian Wood Industry Day is the central event of the Slovenian wood and furniture industry! It took place for the seventh time on 12th of March 2026 at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Center\, as part of the DOM fair. \n\n\n\nThe event brought together representatives of the state\, companies\, research and development institutions\, architects\, engineers\, students and other experts from the wood processing industry. \n\n\n\nThe participants were welcomed by Dejan Židan\, State Secretary at the Ministry of the Economy\, Tourism and Sport\, and Nataša Kos\, Deputy Director of SPIRIT Slovenia. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMr Židan emphasized: “The wood processing industry has great development potential – both in terms of economic growth and sustainable development. But if we want to exploit the potential of wood as a strategic raw material\, we must also be aware of some challenges\,” he warned. He highlighted the goal of processing as much wood as possible domestically – into products with higher added value\, and emphasized the importance of investing in knowledge\, education and the attractiveness of professions in the wood industry. “Wood as a material will have even greater importance in the future than it does today. It is a renewable resource that plays an important role in the transition to a low-carbon society\, in the development of a circular economy and in sustainable construction. Therefore\, it is important that we jointly develop new products\, new technologies and new business models that will enable Slovenian companies to be more competitive on the global market. The key to success is cooperation – between companies\, research institutions\, educational institutions and the state\,” he concluded. \n\n\n\nMs Kos highlighted the importance of the long-term development of the industry and the role of wood as a strategic material for the future: “Slovenia is the third most forested country in Europe\, so wood represents an important development opportunity for our economy. As a renewable and low-carbon material\, it plays a key role in the transition to a green and circular economy\, while also opening up numerous opportunities for the development of innovative products with higher added value. SUMMARY:R-evolve Innovation Camp: pioneering innovative and sustainable actions in the furniture Industry
DESCRIPTION:Copenhagen\, Denmark\, September 11th – The R-evolve Innovation Camp\, part of the Horizon Europe project\, has successfully concluded\, uniting stakeholders from across the furniture sector to explore innovative strategies in sustainability\, data utilization\, and circular economy business models (CEBMs). Hosted at H15 in Copenhagen\, this three-day event served as a platform for cross-competent teams to share knowledge and kick off testing new CEBMs\, circular design strategies\, and the Digital Product Passport (DPP) through nine innovative piloting projects. \n\n\n\nThe camp commenced with an emphasis on transforming data from a mere cost into a valuable asset for businesses. Participants engaged in dynamic discussions about the DPP\, a tool that not only enhances transparency but also opens new avenues for developing innovative circular economy business models. This shift goes beyond compliance with emerging regulations\, positioning the DPP as a strategic advantage that can drive significant positive impact within the industry. \n\n\n\nAligned with the new European regulation on sustainable design\, which mandates that products must be conceived with sustainability in mind throughout their lifecycle\, the R-evolve project aims to support the EU’s Green Deal objectives. By integrating these regulatory frameworks\, the camp highlighted the critical need for the furniture sector to innovate and adapt in order to reduce environmental impact and promote circularity. \n\n\n\nAs the event progressed\, participants engaged in in-depth dialogues addressing the challenges of adopting DPPs in the furniture industry. Strategies for stakeholder engagement and promoting sustainable practices were explored\, with a strong emphasis on empowering consumers through informed choices and enhanced transparency. \n\n\n\nThe second day featured hands-on workshops led by scientific partners\, where teams examined product characteristics and identified key attributes for improvement. By disassembling products\, participants gained insights into materials and design structures\, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with industry partners. This practical approach facilitated validation of findings and aimed at redesigning products for easier disassembly and reassembly. \n\n\n\nAs the Innovation Camp concluded\, teams showcased their insights and design strategies\, reinforcing the camp’s mission to create sustainable and innovative solutions for the furniture industry. The event not only highlighted the commitment of participants to a greener future but also set the stage for actionable next steps. \n\n\n\nMoving forward\, the R-evolve project will continue to advance sustainable and circular practices\, focusing on modular solutions and innovative business models that prioritize environmental responsibility. The integration of insights gained from the Innovation Camp will guide the development of concrete strategies that engage both political and strategic stakeholders and industry players alike. Together\, we can reshape the furniture sector and lead the charge toward a sustainable future.
