SUMMARY:Slovenian Wood Industry Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Slovenian Wood Industry Day is the central event of the Slovenian wood and furniture industry! It took place for the seventh time on 12th of March 2026 at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Center\, as part of the DOM fair. \n\n\n\nThe event brought together representatives of the state\, companies\, research and development institutions\, architects\, engineers\, students and other experts from the wood processing industry. \n\n\n\nThe participants were welcomed by Dejan Židan\, State Secretary at the Ministry of the Economy\, Tourism and Sport\, and Nataša Kos\, Deputy Director of SPIRIT Slovenia. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMr Židan emphasized: “The wood processing industry has great development potential – both in terms of economic growth and sustainable development. But if we want to exploit the potential of wood as a strategic raw material\, we must also be aware of some challenges\,” he warned. He highlighted the goal of processing as much wood as possible domestically – into products with higher added value\, and emphasized the importance of investing in knowledge\, education and the attractiveness of professions in the wood industry. “Wood as a material will have even greater importance in the future than it does today. It is a renewable resource that plays an important role in the transition to a low-carbon society\, in the development of a circular economy and in sustainable construction. Therefore\, it is important that we jointly develop new products\, new technologies and new business models that will enable Slovenian companies to be more competitive on the global market. The key to success is cooperation – between companies\, research institutions\, educational institutions and the state\,” he concluded. \n\n\n\nMs Kos highlighted the importance of the long-term development of the industry and the role of wood as a strategic material for the future: “Slovenia is the third most forested country in Europe\, so wood represents an important development opportunity for our economy. As a renewable and low-carbon material\, it plays a key role in the transition to a green and circular economy\, while also opening up numerous opportunities for the development of innovative products with higher added value. Wood is also an important element of sustainable construction and a key raw material for the development of modern\, environmentally friendly solutions. At SPIRIT Slovenia\, we have therefore been successfully implementing activities to promote wood and support companies in their development for many years\, together with the Ministry of Economy.” She added that they also pay special attention to young people: “We also pay special attention to young people\, as we want to increase interest in woodworking professions and present them with the numerous career opportunities offered by the woodworking industry.” \n\n\n\nThe participants listened to a presentation of the state and development opportunities of the Slovenian wood processing industry by Prof. Dr. Tjaša Redek from the Faculty of Economics\, University of Ljubljana. This was followed by an open discussion with company representatives about the challenges and opportunities of the development of the industry in practice. Participants included Aleš Pevc (Technology Park Ljubljana)\, Nejc Jezeršek (Mizarstvo Jezeršek)\, Luka Stepan (Sito) and Petra Kos (Mizarstvo Kos)\, and the discussion was moderated by Prof. Dr. Tjaša Redek. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe program also included a presentation on the importance of intellectual property rights for the development of new ideas and a discussion on how wood companies can increase productivity\, add value and successfully transfer businesses to the next generation. Company representatives Robert Florjančič (Mizarstvo Florjančič)\, Melita Žiher (Žiher hiše)\, Mojca Mlinar (Mlinar pohištvo) and Miran Berk (Prima oprema) presented their experiences in the discussion. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOne of the key topics of this year’s meeting was intergenerational transfers of ownership in family businesses. The discussions showed that the new generation often brings more digitalization\, sustainable business approaches and a focus on higher added value to the industry\, while preserving the knowledge and experience of previous generations. Participants included Irena Meterc (SPIRIT Slovenia)\, Jaka Hrovat (Mizarstvo Hrovat)\, Eva Rihter (Rihter) and Dejan Petkovšek (Javor formwork boards)\, and the discussion was moderated by Andrej Šolinc from CEED Slovenia. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt the conclusion\, participants also had the opportunity to network over snacks. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBefore the Slovenian Wood Industry Day itself\, the online international business meetings Wood & Furniture Go International took place\, which were attended by companies from Slovenia\, Ukraine\, Spain\, Greece\, Romania\, Croatia and Hungary. \n\n\n\nYou can find more about the event on the website of MGTŠ ion SPIRIT Slovenia.

\n\nThe event was attended by more than 135 participants from various fields\, including management and development staff from companies\, researchers\, architects\, designers\, students\, representatives of ministries and the media\, and was coordinated by Gregor Murn. \n\nThe event was opened by State Secretary at the Ministry of the Economy\, Tourism and Sport Dejan Židan\, who stressed the importance of the forest and timber sector for Slovenia and expressed further support for its green transition and strengthening of competitiveness. In light of the European Green Deal\, the Slovenian wood and furniture industry is successfully adapting by introducing new products and innovations\, which is reflected in the growth of added value per employee. This adaptation is also actively supported by the Ministry of the Economy\, Tourism and Sport\, which has already allocated more than 41 million euros in subsidies for 185 projects since 2022\, with the aim of promoting sustainable growth and efficient exploitation of domestic wood. It was followed by a welcoming speech by Undersecretary at the Directorate for Forestry and Hunting at the Ministry of Agriculture\, Forestry and Food Tomaž Remic. \n\nThe opening session of the event was dedicated to the EU strategic framework and regulations that significantly affect the forest-timber sector. Žiga Čebulj\, CER – Partnership for a Sustainable Economy\, Silvia Melengari\, CEI Bois – European Confederation of Woodworking Industries and Gabriella Kemendi\, EFIC – European Furniture Industries Confederation\, highlighted how companies can leverage the principles of the circular economy to increase added value. The focus was on the concrete implementation of key European legislation and projects\, such as the EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation) and the EMFF (Ecodesign Regulation for Sustainable Products) and the r-Evolve project\, which will shape the future of the wood and furniture industry. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe second part offered an insight into concrete innovations and successful business models in the Slovenian forest and wood sector. Examples of good practices of companies were presented; Eva Rihter for Rihter d.o.o. with circular business models and Črt Jaklič for LynxCraft d.o.o. with an innovative construction platform. The presentations also covered promising development projects; Matjaž Božič for the startup Rutena with Mycopor composites based on fungi and Ida Poljanšek with a presentation of advanced composites with nanocellulose (BaPur M-ERA NET) to international research initiatives such as ARCHI-SKIN (Horizon Europe)\, presented by Anja Černoš and WoodInnovate (Interreg) presented by Miha Humar. \n\nThe event concluded with a central round table on the topic: “The Great Green Wave of Change – How to Increase Added Value for Wood and Companies?” The discussion\, moderated by Aleš Ugovšek (M Sora d.d.)\, brought together key stakeholders from industry\, research and the state. Participants\, including Marta Kelvišar\, Director of Adria Dom\, Marko Lukić\, Director of Lumar IG\, Primož Simončič from the Forestry Institute of Slovenia\, Primož Oven from the Biotechnical Faculty and Darko Sajko\, Director General of the Directorate for Wood at the Ministry of the Economy\, Tourism and Sport\, sought synergies and solutions for the efficient use of wood and the long-term sustainable growth of the sector\, which is often measured in added value per employee\, in light of current environmental and economic challenges. \n\nYou can find a video recording of the discussion HERE\, and Aleš Ugovšek’s post HERE. \n\nThe event was concluded with an occasional reception sponsored by the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Association of Wood and Furniture Industries and SRIP PSiDL\, as well as business b2b meetings with Ukrainian\, Spanish and Romanian companies (reBUILD project). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe event is organized by SPIRIT Slovenia\, a public agency with financial support from the Ministry of Economy\, Tourism and Sport. \n\n\n\nCo-organizers:

SUMMARY:We participated in the Modular Home Expo - the largest prefabricated house fair in Southeast Europe
DESCRIPTION:The International Modular Home Expo\, held in the former Exportdrvo building in Rijeka\, Croatia\, was held from 16 to 18 May 2025. It is the first event to bring together the leading manufacturers of modular and prefabricated houses in South-East Europe. Visitors have the opportunity to learn about the latest trends in sustainable and energy-efficient construction and solutions that reduce energy consumption. The fourth edition of the fair in Rijeka brought together around fifty exhibitors\, after attracting tens of thousands of visitors in previous years in Zagreb and Istria. \n\nModular homes are becoming an increasingly popular choice due to their faster and cheaper construction compared to traditional methods\, while ensuring high quality materials\, modern design and better energy efficiency. The opening was addressed by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Spatial Planning\, Construction and State Property Željko Uhlir\, the Mayor of Rijeka Marko Filipović and the Fair Director Katarina Antešić. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nState Secretary Uhlir emphasized that modular construction allows for up to 50% faster implementation\, up to 20% lower costs and greater worker safety\, which is an important step towards solving the housing shortage in Croatia. Mayor Filipović emphasized that the fair is not only a presentation of technologies\, but also a place for the exchange of knowledge and ideas that will shape the future of construction. As an example of good practice\, he cited the construction of two city kindergartens using the modular method\, which confirms the advantages of this type of construction. \n\nAt the event\, we participated in a thematic round table\, together with Croatian and Serbian colleagues. Marles houses\, Žiher houses and Gašper Trženje exhibited at the fair.
